Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission is honored to be participating in Kentucky Gives Day. The first one ever for Kentucky, this 24-hour online celebration of philanthropy to raise support for nonprofit organizations across the Commonwealth set for Wednesday, April 24. The event includes prize money for organizations raising the most gifts and money on April 24, so we are encouraging donors to come together on April 24 to make a difference.
The Kentucky Nonprofit Network organized this innovative, one-day only online giving event to draw attention to the important work of nonprofit organizations across Kentucky. Individuals who want to support charitable work can go online to www.kygives.org to schedule a donation for Wednesday, April 24. There are hundreds of organizations across the Commonwealth participating, but you can reach NKCAC’s giving page, here http://kygives.razoo.com/story/Nkcac anytime.
NKCAC will use funds raised during Kentucky Gives Day to support summer enrichment services which help Head Start children and their families keep learning all summer and prevent the o-called ‘summer slide.’ The summer slide is the loss of learning over the summer break. It affect all children, but it is much worse for low-income children. The affects are cumulative, too, with low income children losing more ground each summer when compared to their more affluent peers. In fact, by high school, the summer slide explains two-thirds of the achievement gap between affluent and low income students. You can learn more about the summer slide here, including how communities must take responsibility for closing this achievement gap.
The tax-deductible donation from Kentucky Gives Day will provide materials, activities, lunches and snacks, as well as staffing to keep these children, safe, active and learning over the summer – ready to start school without losing ground.
Roeding Insurance Group of Crestview Hills, Kentucky is providing a matching gift for the event. Roeding will match every dollar given, up to the first $500. Dave Hellmann, Account Executive at Roeding Insurance said, “NKCAC makes a big difference in the quality of life for those struggling with poverty in our community. Our matching gift challenges others to support their work and make the summer more enriching for kids who need it most.”
We are excited to be a part of this innovative online giving event. This is a chance for individuals to make a difference in the lives of children throughout Northern Kentucky. Not only can your gift be doubled thanks to Roeding’s matching gift challenge, but our agency is eligible for additional cash prizes the more people participate and give, making your gift go even further.
So please give generously – the children are counting on you.
