NORTHERN KENTUCKY COMMUNITY ACTION COMMISSION WEATHERIZATION DEPARTMENT WINS 2006 OUTSTANDING HUMAN SERVICES AWARD
The Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission (NKCAC) Weatherization Department has been chosen by the Northern Kentucky Area Development District (NKADD) for the “2006 Outstanding Human Services Award”! NKCAC’s Weatherization Program was the winning program chosen from NKADD’s eight county region.
NKCAC serves Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen and Pendleton counties in the Northern Kentucky area. The goal of the Weatherization Assistance Program is reduce energy burdens to low income families by applying cost-effective energy efficiency measures for existing residential and multifamily housing. Residents further benefit from an all-around safety checks because many buildings receiving attention in Northern Kentucky are old and in need of repair. NKCAC’s crews also check the home’s major energy systems to ensure that the occupants are safe.
Often low-income clients cannot afford to repair their own homes and equally cannot afford the utility bills resulting from the poor condition of their homes. Because weatherization upgrades the energy systems in homes and apartment buildings in low-income communities, it increases the value of its housing stock. By reducing long-term energy costs, weatherization also makes these housing units more affordable and more attractive in the market. In this way, weatherization helps Northern Kentucky preserve its stock of affordable housing.
The NKCAC Weatherization Program is a model program and is always on the cutting edge with new products. Northern Kentucky Community Action’s program is continually cited by the state weatherization office as the best in the state and has received the “most innovative” award two of the three years the Cabinet for Families and Children has been giving awards and Program of Distinction awards for the last three years.
Congratulations to the Weatherization Department staff for all of your dedication and efforts to truly make a difference in the community!
