COVINGTON, KY. – After a week of review and assessment of the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission’s Head Start operations, the six federal evaluators found absolutely no deficiencies, findings or concerns. The evaluators looked at everything about the program including reviewing NKCAC’s adherence to the 2,500 performance standards that Head Start programs must abide by.
Head Start promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. They engage parents in their children's learning and help them in making progress toward their educational, literacy and employment goals. Significant emphasis is placed on the involvement of parents in the administration of Head Start.
Laurie Wolsing, Head Start Director for the six Head Start programs in Northern Kentucky said “I am very proud of the hard work of the entire Head Start staff. They should be proud of this great accomplishment. The children and families of Northern Kentucky have a bright future to look forward to.”
All of the 1,000 Head Start programs across the country receive an in depth review every three years. This Head Start Triennial review is an effort to focus on program integrity, effectiveness, and accountability. Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission operates six Head Start locations: Newport (2), Covington, Falmouth, Dayton and Elsmere. A new location, in Burlington in Boone County is slated to open in 2010. To receive more information or to enroll your child in Head Start please contact Kathy Hayes at 859-431-4177.
