Serving the Northern Kentucky Counties of Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen and Pendleton |
Covington, Ky. – Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission is the proud recipient of the 2009 Monsignor Bill Cleves Award from Faith Community Pharmacy. NKCAC was awarded the prestigious award at a recent dinner at the Marquise Banquet Center in Wilder. “The award recognizes a person or agency from the community that has collaborated with us and helped to fulfill our mission” said Rosana Aydt, RPh, Director of Faith Community Pharmacy.
Faith Community Pharmacy is a non-profit pharmacy that provides free prescriptions to lower-income clients who have no prescription benefit coverage. The pharmacy conducts client outreach and delivers prescriptions to clients in Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission’s eight county neighborhood centers in Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen, and Pendleton Counties. Aydt estimates that 75% of their clients are served in NKCAC’s outreach locations. NKCAC donates the office space and use of their copier allowing the pharmacy to qualify clients and distribute their medication on site, thus eliminating the transportation difficulties that so many low-income clients have.
In accepting the award on behalf of Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, Executive Director Florence Tandy commented, “Our partnership with Faith Community Pharmacy just makes sense. It helps the pharmacy while helping low income clients throughout our region. Being a part of the equation to help families better afford their health care is gratifying beyond measure.”
The need for prescription assistance has grown tremendously in the last year, and the pharmacy staff has had difficulty keeping up with the increased demand. To help ease the burden NKCAC has partnered with Faith Community Pharmacy by hiring a Health Benefits Coordinator to conduct intake interviews and screen clients for K-CHIP and Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program eligibility. This new position is stimulus funded with dollars from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Coordinator travels to the NKCAC County Neighborhood Centers to conduct outreach in all parts of the community. The partnership has enabled the pharmacy to serve more than 800 individuals and families this year, a 36% increase from last year.
