Chapman and Menning Recognized for Service

At its 2006Annual Meeting, held at the Marquise on July 24, Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission recognized Dennis Chapman with the Doris Weidemann Memorial award for outstanding board service and Joan Menning for outstanding community service. Dennis Chapman is currently serving in his sixth year as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The Doris Weidemann Memorial Award has been given to board members since 1994 to recognize extraordinary service and dedication. Dennis Chapman has served on the Board of Directors since 1987, in virtually all of the roles on the board – executive committee, officer and finally chairman. In fact, he has led two executive searches to replace outgoing executive directors and has led the agency during a period of tremendous growth and change for Northern Kentucky.

The Community Service Award to recognizes outstanding service from a staff member of NKCAC. Joan Menning has served as Head Start Director since 1987. As director, Joan Menning has built enrollment in the Head Start program from 190 in 1987 to 444 today. She added day care services, and opened new centers in Falmouth and Dayton. When her staff and others in the Newport community were having challenges continuing their education, she worked with Gateway and NKU to set up classes at the Newport Head Start Center to allow them to take college classes in an accessible location.

With an eight county service area, Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission provides a comprehensive array of services designed to enable low income families to achieve self sufficiency.
